This afternoon, a platform (https://ehealth.gov.gr/p-rv/p) is being opened for the registration of citizens in their institution personal doctor persons who have reached the age of 16, as well as in the regions of Attica and the South Aegean Sea. Registration of citizens in other regions of the country, which began on August 1, continues as usual. At the same time, a trial phase of the system begins today, where citizens will be able to visit their personal doctor.

More than 2,100,000 citizens have registered with a personal doctor, the Ministry of Health reports. He adds that now all citizens who have a personal doctor receive their own health consultant free of charge, who will inform them about preventive examinations, monitor their medical records and prescribe medications and tests.

From October 1, 2022, the electronic appointment system will be activated so that citizens can make an appointment as easily as they used to make an appointment for Covid-19 vaccination.

The procedure for registering the population with a personal doctor

The population over 16 years of age, by date of birth and the adult population, are registered with a personal doctor, who is freely chosen, regardless of place of residence or residence, from among all those registered in the corresponding lists, which are updated every time personal doctors , general/family medicine or internal medicine.

Registration of a personal physician is done electronically, either by a citizen through a citizen registration platform, or by administrative and other personnel of public PPH healthcare providers, or by personal physicians.

A citizen registers with a personal doctor in the following ways:

1) through the personal physician registration platform (https://ehealth.gov.gr/p-rv/p), where entry is made with the citizen’s taxinet and AMCA codes.

2) in person at a PFY medical facility or personal physician, taking your AMKA with you and, for simple demonstration, an identity document (such as an identity card) or a photocopy.

All citizen applications are accepted until the legal limit of 2,000 registered citizens per doctor is reached. In the case of private doctors who have entered into an agreement with EOPYY, citizens’ applications for registration are accepted in accordance with a certain limit that each doctor has chosen in his agreement.

Citizens who are already registered with a family doctor are considered registered with a personal doctor with all relevant rights and obligations and are not required to take any further actions.

Each person has the right to register with only one personal doctor. The transition to another personal doctor is allowed once a year, which starts from the day of registration of a citizen. In the event of a change of administrative region during the year, a citizen has the right to an additional transfer.

The uninsured have the option, if they wish, to register with a personal physician hired by EOPYY if they cannot be covered by a public PFY physician.

Citizens who wish to register with a personal physician of the National Health Service in areas that have been characterized as problematic and barren, may register for the services of a personal physician at the health post in their place of residence.

Incentives for registering with a personal physician

Those who register will have priority from 01-01-2023 when scheduling visits to regular outpatient clinics in public secondary and tertiary care facilities.

Those who are not registered with a personal physician will, from 10/01/2022, have an additional participation in pharmaceutical costs at a rate of 10% in addition to their participation rate determined on a case-by-case basis. They will also have additional participation in laboratory and diagnostic tests and procedures, hospitalizations in private clinics and other benefits of 10% in addition to their participation rate determined on a case-by-case basis.

From 01.01.2023, the above reserves are increased by an interest rate of 10%, in addition to the above additional participation, increasing to an interest rate of 20% of the percentage of participation determined in each specific case.

Choice of personal doctors

a) a doctor from the National Health System Physicians’ Department who maintains and provides his services in health centers, local medical posts (To.MY) and other PFY public institutions,

b) a doctor providing his services within the framework of the activities of local medical teams in accordance with article 106 of Law 4461/2017 (A’38),

c) a physician under contract with the National Health Services Organization (EOPYY).

It is noted that non-specialist doctors with a general medicine certificate are also defined as personal doctors.

By decision of the Minister of Health, doctors of other specialties may be appointed as personal doctors when there are not enough doctors in the specialties of general/family medicine or internal pathology and after completing an education/training program.

Any doctor practicing an independent medical profession can also enter into a contract with EOPYY, whether they have already entered into a contract or receive a monthly salary or monthly remuneration from public sector authorities.

According to the Ministry of Health, there are 3,209 personal doctors in our country, and participation in the institution has exceeded 1,000 people. Registration of doctors is open from today for all regions of the country until December 31, 2022.
