Autumn seems to have arrived… early this year as September starts from weather instability.
According to the latest forecast data from the National Observatory of Athens/meteo.gr, local rains and thunderstorms are expected from Thursday afternoon, mainly in the mountainous part of the mainland (except eastern Thrace), in the mountains of Crete and possibly in the Ionian.
The phenomena in the mountains of the Peloponnese will be strong in places.
The following map shows a rough indication of rain expected on Thursday afternoon (January 09) and highlights areas where the worst impacts are expected.
“Friday is a dangerous day”
Meteorologist Clearchos Marousakis said a strong storm is expected on Friday, which will be a “dangerous weather day”.
As he explains in his post, due to the low barometric pressure in Italy and the Balkans, the weather tends to be unstable in much of southeastern Europe.
This system of bad weather will affect our country from today Thursday, initially in Macedonia, Halkidiki, northern Thessaly and the western northwestern Aegean, the main characteristics of which are severe storms, hail and strong lightning.
According to Mr. Marousakis, these phenomena will continue to rage at night and tomorrow, Friday, in several areas of the Ionian Sea, the continental shelf, the western and northern Aegean Sea.
In fact, both Attica and Thessaloniki will be affected.
