Schools: Proposal Accepted to Open Without Masks and Tests – Official Announcement

Official opening announcement schools September 12, and the measures to be applied against the coronavirus pandemic were jointly published on Tuesday afternoon (8/30) by the Ministries of Education and Health.

In essence, the government accepts this unanimous recommendation for schools by the Expert Committee Ministry of Health, which met today.

So:

  • The use of a protective mask remains optional.
  • As a rule, when a child shows symptoms, he stays at home (as with any viral infection).
  • If symptoms appear, self-diagnosis is recommended.
  • In case of a positive case, isolation measures applicable to the general population are applied, i.e. staying in isolation for at least five days and avoiding contact with other people. After five days of isolation and in the absence of symptoms or improvement of symptoms after five days with a complete decrease in fever within a day without the use of antipyretics, isolation is stopped. Return to school with the mandatory use of a high respiratory protection mask (N95 or KN95 or FFP2) or a double mask for at least five more days after the end of isolation.
  • Maintaining hand hygiene.
  • Sufficient ventilation of rooms in accordance with current regulations.
  • Sanitary measures will be reviewed in case of changes in epidemiological data.

More detailed information will be specified in the forthcoming joint ministerial decision.

Earlier on radio station SKAI, Mr. Kerameos announced softer measures for schools. “The broader trend, listening to the experts, is for the softest education measures and school reopenings to be closer to normal.”

At the same time, he added that the pandemic is a dynamic process, which is closely monitored by the government and, if necessary, adjustments will be made to any measures.
