The City Hall of the capital allocated 11.3 million lei for the expropriation necessary to complete the transition of Nicolae Grigorescu-Splai Dudescu, stage II, which means the widening of Iuliu Gaceganu Street between Vitan-Barzesti Highway and Nicolae Grigorescu Drive to three lanes in each direction.

The amount was allocated to adjust the budget approved on Wednesday by the General Council of the Municipality of Bucharest.

The second phase includes the expansion of Iuliu Hatsieganu street to three lanes in each direction, between the drive through Dâmboviţa and Calea Vitan, with a length of 1.3 kilometers.

“The work will be carried out in partnership with the mayor’s office of sector 3 and the mayor’s office of sector 4, the mayor’s office of the capital, which will finance the expropriation, and the mayor’s office of the two sectors to ensure the execution of the works,” the capital’s mayor’s office said.

The total cost of the project is about 105 million lei, Deputy Mayor Stelian Buyduveanu said last year, and the construction permit has already been issued.

The Metropolitan City Hall completed the work on Nicolae Grigorescu Passage in July 2020, 10 years after the opening of the construction site. As of 2018, the flyover is 90% complete, but could not be completed due to high voltage cables that needed to be lifted.

Stage I of the Nicolae Grigorescu-Sply Dudescu crossing involved the widening of Nicolae Grigorescu Boulevard to three lanes in each direction, the construction of the Dambovitsa pass and two ground-level bridges over the river.

The construction site was started in March 2010 and was supposed to be completed at the end of 2012. After the auction, the cost of the project was set at 90 million lei. However, the work was blocked for about four years because the General Council of the Municipality of Bucharest did not approve the expropriation, which is estimated to cost 35 million lei (€8 million). In 2016, they were unblocked, but in 2018 they were blocked again due to high-voltage cables. Expropriations for the first stage of works cost 30.9 million lei.
