
President Klaus Iohannis says Russia’s war against Ukraine is in “stark contrast” to the legacy left by the last Soviet leader, Mikhail Gorbachev, and to his “courageous” vision of world peace.

- “Mikhail Gorbachev was a leader who wisely understood that ending the Cold War was the right approach.
- The current war waged by Russia against Ukraine is brutal, unprovoked and unjustified, in stark contrast to his legacy and bold vision of a peaceful world,” Johannis said in a message posted on Twitter after Gorbachev’s death.
The last Soviet leader, Mikhail Gorbachev, died on Tuesday at the age of 91.
