“We continue to implement the necessary measures to protect and use the Văcăreşti Nature Park (PNV). We are considering investments to improve the park, careful supervision of the area and bringing in the best specialists in the field to support the administration’s projects,” Nikushor Dan wrote on Facebook on Tuesday evening.

He noted that the hydrological and geotechnical studies necessary to protect the existing natural habitats in the park have now been completed, and a proposal for the Văcăreşti Park Regulation has been submitted, which should receive the approval of the National Agency for Natural Protected Areas. and the Ministry of the Environment, he began the development of the PNV Management Plan, involving a series of specialists led by the renowned ornithologist Jozef Szabo. Dan mentioned that the first version of it will be available in November.

According to him, the security of Văcăreşti Park has been ensured and strengthened, currently six agents are present in the park 24 hours a day, the park has been disinfected, and around 30 tons of waste have been collected and evacuated since the beginning of the year. Currently, the park is being rehabilitated constantly.

At the same time, compact areas with ragweed plants have been eliminated, and the promotion is ongoing.

“We started organizing ornithological excursions, during which participants can observe the park’s bird species. We have started a number of investments, such as: installing new observatories on the site of old and degraded ones, building pedestrian stairs for visitors at the two main entrances to the park, as well as installing video surveillance cameras (the City Hall of Sector 4 has already signed a contract for their purchase).

We have invited several researchers, university professors and well-known biologists to become members of future PNV Scientific Advisory Boards. I invite all nature lovers, residents of Bucharest or tourists in Bucharest to visit Văcăreşti Nature Park and enjoy this wonderful area, located just a few kilometers from the center of the capital,” added Nikusor Dan.

Văcăreşti Nature Park was created in 2016 by the government’s decision as a result of the public initiative of Ecopolis, Salvaţi Delta, Kogaion and National Geographic magazine. In 2014, the initiative group decided to create the Văcăreşti Natural Park Association to better coordinate the campaign to promote the creation of the park.

The park is a natural wetland at the site of construction that was started and abandoned during the communist period. Its area is 183 hectares.

It has a rich biodiversity, surprising for an urban space, represented by species and habitats, some of which are of interest to the community, as well as a unique natural landscape for urban agglomerations.

Văcăreşti Nature Park is currently managed by the Bucharest City Hall through an independent administrative structure.
