Iryna Begu reached the second round of the US Open 2022, our athlete on Tuesday became the 32nd favorite of the Grand Slam tournament in New York.
Bega, who is ranked 42nd in the world, defeated Elise Mertens 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 after two hours and 24 minutes of play.
The athlete from Belgium led 2:0 in the second set and 3:1 in the decisive one, but the Romanian came back each time.
