2020 Flushing Meadows champion Dominic Thiem crashed out of this year’s US Open in the first round, with the Austrian beating 12th seed Pablo Carreño. It was a bad day for some of the favorites as the top six seeds were eliminated on the first day of competition at Flushing Meadows.

Stefanos Tsitsipas (4), Taylor Fritz (10), Roberto Bautista (16), Francisco Cerundolo (24), Maxim Cressi (30) and Nikoloz Basilashvili (31) have already dropped out of the 2022 US Open.
