At the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, which is occupied by Russian troops, there is a risk of “release of radioactive substances”, the Ukrainian state operator said on Saturday, reports AFP.

According to “Energoatom”, Russian troops “bombed several times in the last day”.

“The plant’s infrastructure has been damaged and there are risks of hydrogen leakage and radioactive fallout,” the agency said on Telegram, adding that there was a “high risk of fire.”

On the other hand, the Ministry of Defense of Russia on Saturday accused Ukrainian troops of bombing the Zaporizhzhya NPP complex three times in the last day, Reuters reports.

Russia and Ukraine blame each other for explosions near the plant that caused fires Thursday that knocked the plant off the grid.

On Friday, NAEC “Energoatom” announced the connection of two reactors to the Ukrainian power grid.
