One month account online application Gov.gr Wallet through which citizens add a digital copy of their police ID and driver’s license to their mobile phone.

In particular, since the launch of the application (July 27) until today, 710,041 citizens have “downloaded” an identity card to their mobile phone and 563,072 – a driver’s license.

Remember that the document and ID card can only be saved on a mobile device. Digital copies have the same domestic validity as paper certificates, with the exception of international travel. Thus, Greeks can use their mobile phone for any transactions in Greece. The next task of the Ministry of Digital Governance, after the ID card and diploma, is to add additional documents to the application, such as vehicle license information, toll payment information, vehicle technical inspection result. (VTEO) and next control date, insurance information, etc. In addition, in the future it will also be possible to authenticate to gov.gr through the Gov.gr wallet.

Validation of digital copies

It should be noted that the issue of authentication control is of particular importance, since digital copies of public documents in a wallet are an upgrade in terms of the security of citizens’ transactions with the state and the private sector. These documents, such as a digital copy of a police ID, are now verifiable and can (always with the permission and consent of the citizen) be authenticated. This is especially important in transactions in areas such as banking or mobile telephony. However, it must be clarified that simply presenting the document in the wallet is not enough and QR scanning is required in any case to be sure that the document is valid.

Thus, checking the validity of a document is carried out by showing the QR code of the corresponding document to the verifier. After the controller “scans” your QR code with their device, the user must give (or not) permission for this control through the Gov.gr Wallet app. If he agrees, a 6-digit code will appear, which he can name or show to the controller. Only – and only then – when the tester successfully enters this code, will they be able to see the data of the digital ID or driver’s license.

Gov.gr Wallet is available on the iOS and Android app stores. In addition, the user can download the application through the wallet.gov.gr page.

To use the Gov.gr Wallet app, you will need:

* or his personal Taxisnet passwords and certified mobile phone number,

* or his personal web banking codes.

The mobile phone number is authenticated exclusively by one of the following methods:

* registration in the National Register of Communications (NRS),

* login once with web banking codes
