According to sources cited, DNA has sent a request to the Post Office asking it to provide a number of documents by Wednesday in the context of a criminal case against the company.

Among other things, prosecutors demand:

  • employment contracts and other cooperation contracts concluded by mail with several persons
  • credit agreement
  • several contracts for the provision of services, including for fixed telephony, concluded and acquired by the Post of Romania after February 17
  • documents regarding the company’s purchase of stationary equipment
  • all documents related to trips abroad during 2021-2022

What the Romanian post office says about the DNA investigation

Romania’s post office said on Wednesday it had received a request for documents from the National Anti-Corruption Directorate, all with an internal channel, which it would forward to the agency.

  • “The company respects all its obligations imposed by the law and takes a thorough and serious approach to all the projects it carries out. At the same time, Pošta Română cooperates with any authorized regulatory body and is open to any official inquiries regarding its activities.
  • Poșta Română, one of the largest state-owned companies in Romania, is a company that is frequently inspected by regulatory authorities, and we consider these steps to be natural. Note that some documents recently requested by DNA are more than 30 years old.
  • At the same time, the company’s current management is conscientious, responsible and careful with all the resources owned by the Romanian Post. As it has shown, the current management acts transparently and provides all support to the institutions of the Romanian state,” the state-owned company claims.
