PSD President Marcel Čolaku says that his party will not lose the upcoming presidential elections, and the candidate will be determined in internal elections, not excluding inclusion in the list of persons outside the formation.
“There is no longer a custom in the Social Democratic Party when the party president automatically becomes a presidential candidate. I would like to explain to my colleagues that there should be even greater openness if we have a non-party person to be able to run in intra-party elections. There will be elections, we will change the charter, and here I did not agree with my colleagues, there will be elections in each organization for a candidate. It is possible that there are multiple personalities. I will not make the mistakes that other PSD presidents have made. PSD lost these elections four times. The PSD will not lose this election again, we will get out of the logic that led to the loss of the election,” Marcel Cholaku said on Antena 3 on Tuesday night, according to Agerpres.
Regarding the appointment of the prime minister next year, Marcel Čolaku assured that the rotation will take place and the PSD will hold the post of prime minister.
“Obviously, next year, according to the protocol, there will be a rotation of prime ministers and the Social Democratic Party will have the post of prime minister. If my colleagues decide that I am the right person for prime minister – I really want not to break what I have built within the party – I will become prime minister. Hence the correct functioning as political people between me and Niku Chuke, because we exchange all the information,” the leader of the Social Democrats explained.
What PSD says it wants to do when it takes over the government
Cholaku added that work is already underway on a government program to be proposed after the PSD takes over the executive branch, which includes both social and economic packages.
“We are working on the program, we have working groups in the party, and today I stayed in the party and worked. We are preparing the correct program “Supporting Romania 2″, we are finalizing it and presenting it to our colleagues in the coalition, and we will see what they decide. Overcoming the energy problem is currently a priority. From this moment we can build budgets. I am firmly convinced that we have to come out with social and economic packages in the next period as well, so that people can overcome this winter. We have to have a clear budget forecast for next year, we have to fit into the deficit left by those at Facebook. There are many challenges, they are difficult, but you will see that we will emerge victorious from this whole confrontation,” said the PSD president.
