The Hellenic Mathematical Society (HME) expressed its strong opposition to the institutionalization of the Subject Bank, as we believe that it distracts the educational process from the Bank’s objectives, some of which deviate from the recommendations of the Institute of Mathematics. Educational Policy (EEP). Thus, the students are led to the parrot.
The results of the final exams for the first two grades of the lyceum show a significant percentage of failure in mathematics. Of course, these percentages are also directly related to the pandemic, the effects of which are strong at all levels of education.
Considering the existence of a subject bank for the 1st and 2nd high school exams and its extension to the 3rd high school final exams, some improvements can be made to mitigate the negative effects of its application.
First, it would be positive to retain the possibility for teachers to choose subjects after three draws. This allows the teacher of each subject to tailor the exam topics to the class level.
It should be noted that this was not the case in 2014, when the Bank was first introduced.
EME believes that the Bank is distracting at the rally for solving exercises and thus playing a prank on students.
Secondly, a radical restructuring of the subjects of the bank is necessary in order to delete those that are outside the school reality and the role of final and final examinations, and replace them with others that are suitable and compatible with the instructions of the institute. educational policy.
A major failure in mathematics, given the difficulty of the course, unfortunately strengthens the students’ phobia towards the course and discourages them from doing mathematics, which, however, is necessary not only in the sciences directly related to mathematics, but also in all others, since they make a person think right.
Mathematics is also a tool of theoretical sciences. It is significant that the development of statistics is largely related to psychology, since each developed point of view must necessarily have statistical documentation. The same is true for the social and health sciences. And let’s not forget that, according to Umberto Eco, language has a mathematical structure.
