Ptolemaida was “drowned” by yesterday’s night storm, which caused many problems throughout its territory. Kozani.
The fire service coordination center has received a total of 186 calls so far at dawn to pump water from the basements of houses in the city of Ptolemaida and in villages adjacent to urban areas.
Due to the high number of calls, the assistance of vehicles and personnel from Epirus and Western Macedonia was required, according to the fire department. Firefighters carried out 45 pumpings of water from residential, basement and utility rooms within the city, and in one case, a slope collapsed in the village of Perdika, crushing a fence and a car.
Trees also fell, both in the city and in the villages, without causing any injuries to the townspeople.
There was also a problem with the gas pipeline under construction: lightning struck an agricultural elevator, causing most of it to burn down.
According to a weather station located in Ardassa, a village just 10 kilometers from Ptolemais, during a storm that lasted about 50 minutes, 77 millimeters of rain fell, flooding fields, irrigation canals and drains.
Shortly after eight in the evening, electricity went out in Eordaya and the surrounding villages. Currently, power supply has been restored, and DEDDIE teams continue repair work in individual houses in settlements.
The mayor asks to declare a state of emergency in flooded areas
The mayor of Eordea, Panagiotis Plakentas, said it was an unprecedented phenomenon that the main city was facing, which meteorologists are calling a “self-feeding storm.”
He also stated that the basement floors of houses and businesses suffered significant damage, and today he will ask the regional mayor Giorgos Kasapidis to declare a state of emergency in the affected areas of the municipality.
From late yesterday evening until this morning, 50 firefighters in 20 vehicles have been working in the Ptolemais area.
