The following athletes of the Romanian national team will compete in the capital of Peru:

David Popovichi (100 m freestyle, 200 m freestyle)

Vlad Stanku (400 m free, 800 m free, 1500 m free)

Bianca Costea (50 m freestyle, 100 m freestyle)

Patrick-Sebastian Dinou (50 m freestyle, 100 m freestyle)

Rebecca-Amy Diaconescu (50m backstroke, 100m backstroke, 100m freestyle, 200m freestyle)

Aissia-Claudia Prisecariu (50 m backstroke, 100 m backstroke, 200 m backstroke)

Stefan Kozma (200 m freestyle, 200 m butterfly)

Alexandru Konstantinescu (50 m backstroke, 200 m backstroke)

Andra Denisa Goretsky (100 m butterfly, 200 m butterfly).

Romania will also compete in the men’s 4x100m freestyle and 4x100m medley relay.

Coaches who went to Lima with the national team: Adrian Radulescu, Iulia Bekeru, Luis Lacatus, Lorena Diaconescu; physiotherapist Dragosh Luskan; team manager Silviu Anastase and head of the delegation Matei Jurcanianu, News.ro reports.

David Popovichi, two-time European champion in Rome

David Popovici won two gold medals at the European Swimming Championships in Rome, our athlete was unstoppable in the 100m freestyle and also in the 200m freestyle. After qualifying for the 400m freestyle final in fourth place, David decided to retire due to fatigue.

We will remind you that in June of this year, David Popovich made a double at the World Swimming Championship, winning the 100 and 200 meter freestyle races.

During the entire World Swimming Championships, only one athlete managed to win the 100-meter and 200-meter freestyle events from the same edition.

It happened 49 years ago, and the person celebrating this feat is called Jim Montgomery (USA – he is now 67 years old). That year, the competition was hosted by Belgrade.
