On Sunday, meteorologists issued updated yellow and orange codes for temporarily increased atmospheric instability and quantitatively significant rain, which are in effect from 10:00 a.m. Sunday until 10:00 p.m. Monday.

There will be periods of increased atmospheric instability in Banat, Oltenia, Krizan, Maramures, Transylvania, in the mountains and locally in Muntenia. There will be showers, electric discharges, increased wind, and sometimes squalls and hail. In short periods of time or due to accumulation, the amount of water will exceed 25-40 l/m2, and in small areas 50-70 l/m2.

The yellow code for unstable weather is valid for the counties of Satu Mare, Maramures, Salai, Bistrita-Neseud, Bihor, Cluj, Mures, Harghita, Covasna, Arad, Timis, Brasov, Dolj, Olt, Dambovitsa, Prahova, Teleorman, Giurgiu and the municipality Bucharest, as well as partially in the districts of Caras-Severin, Hunedoara, Alba and Sibiu.

The National Weather Service warns that the degree of atmospheric instability will remain elevated until the middle of next week.

Also, thermal discomfort will remain high in the southeastern regions, and on the afternoon of August 21, the ITU temperature and humidity index will locally exceed the critical threshold of 80 units.

ANM has updated the orange code for heavy rain from August 21, 10:00 a.m. to August 22, 10:00 p.m., covering the counties of Gorj, Vilca, Arjes and Mehedinci, as well as partially the counties of Karash-Severin, Hunedoara, Alba and Sibiu.

There will be periods of heavy rain in the west of the Southern Carpathians, in the north of Oltenia and in the northwest of Muntenia. In short periods of time, but especially due to accumulation, the amount of water will be registered at 40-50 l/m2, and in small areas more than 70-90 l/m2.
