“The Ministry of Defense of Belarus and the Government of the Russian Federation have signed fixed-term contracts for the repair and restoration of aviation equipment. In particular, employees of the Baranovytskyi Aircraft Repair Plant periodically go on business trips as part of “field teams” to carry out work on the restoration and commissioning of aircraft equipment at the 121 aircraft repair plant (the territory of the Kubinka Air Base).

Specialists of the Armed Forces of Belarus are carrying out work on removing the aircraft from storage and its further use in the war against Ukraine.

Belarus is a faithful ally of Russia. Russian air and missile strikes on Ukraine were carried out from its territory, and on February 24, Moscow’s troops entered Ukraine and from the side of the border with Belarus. In any case, to date, Minsk has not directly entered the conflict.

However, in the first days of the conflict, Russian Tu-22 Backfire bombers used the airspace of Belarus for coordinated strikes with cruise missiles on targets on the territory of Ukraine.

In late June, Vladimir Putin announced that he would deliver missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads to Belarus “in the coming months,” amid tensions between their countries and the West, but especially during the Moscow-led war in Ukraine.

“In the coming months, we will transfer Iskander-M tactical missile systems to Belarus, which can use ballistic or cruise missiles, in conventional and nuclear variants,” Putin said at the start of the meeting in St. Petersburg, broadcast on Russian television.

The President of Belarus, Oleksandr Lukashenko, expressed his concern about the “aggressive”, “confrontational” and “repulsive” policy of his neighbors Lithuania and Poland.

He asked Putin to help Belarus create a “symmetrical response” to what he said were flights of nuclear weapons by the US-led NATO alliance near Belarus’ borders.
