Athens Observatory: Thassos fire burns 2,770 acres

BEYOND Space Applications and Satellite Remote Sensing Division National Observatory of Athens announced that it has estimated the area of ​​the burnt-out fire that started on Lefki Thassos on August 10, 2022 to be approximately 277 hectares or 2,770 acres.

A total of 267 ha or 2,670 acres of NATURA 2000 protected areas are burnt areas.

According to estimates based on data from the European Copernicus program of the EU, burned areas account for 84% of the forest area and 16% of the combination of shrubs and/or herbaceous vegetation.
