
A felony criminal prosecution has been initiated against a 65-year-old resident of Thassos who was arrested at noon today as the prime suspect in a major fire at Skala Potamia on the island of Thassos.
He has been charged with deliberate arson by the Kavala District Attorney and is expected to be taken from the Kavala Police Department, where he is being held, to an investigator tomorrow morning to apologize or request a time limit for an apology.
The defendant was also arbitrarily tried for flammable materials found in his possession following an investigation by the police and fire authorities. The court sentenced him to six months’ suspended imprisonment and a fine of one thousand euros.
