After playing in the final of Wimbledon 2022 and conquering the tournament in Washington, Nick Kyrgios was supposed to join the Australian team for the Davis Cup (he has not played in this competition since 2019). However, it seems that the 27-year-old will not be able to take part in the matches against Germany, France and Belgium.

Nick Kyrgios will therefore not compete in team tennis events in September, Tennis Australia announced on Tuesday, ending speculation about the Australian’s return to the competition.

Nick Kyrgios will not return to Australia’s Davis Cup team

“It would be great to have Nick in the squad but unfortunately he is not available for this game” – Lleyton Hewittcaptain of the Australian national team at the Davis Cup.

Kyrgios has not played in the Davis Cup since 2019, but his recent good performances would help him make the squad.

After the London tour, Kyrgios (28 ATP) won the tournament in Washington earlier this month and reached the quarter-finals in Montreal.

Australia will be betting on Alex de Minaur and Thanasi Kokkinakis in singles, while Matt Ebden and Max Purcell will play in doubles.

Australia will play in Hamburg from September 13 to 18 in Group C against Germany, France and Belgium, according to Agerpres.
