From August 25 to September 1, independent artists from all over the world will invade the streets of Craiova in an explosion of creativity, light and color at the most beautiful festival in Europe dedicated to the art of animation – Puppets Occupy Street.
The Occupy Street Puppets Festival, funded by the City Hall of Craiova and organized by the theater for children and young people Colibri, is famous for the parade of giant puppets that takes place every year on the streets of Craiova on August 25 and September 1. Dolls over 5 meters high and 13 meters long are unique, spectacular and original and are created specifically for each edition.
During 8 days, more than 400 shows, creative workshops, exhibitions, concerts and many other events are planned in all central areas of Craiova, in the surrounding areas, as well as in the most beautiful parks – the Nicolae Romanescu Park and the Botanical Garden, known throughout the world. the world with its history, uniqueness of spaces and variety of flowers.
The theme of this year’s Puppets Occupy Street festival is carnivals– it is generous and complex, at the same time stimulating creativity in unexpected directions, being closely related to the theme of the first edition of the biggest festival in the south of the country, IntenCity, which will be held in Kraiów, on st. August 26, 27 and 28. Specially programmed at the same time as Puppets to reproduce the explosion of emotions of the city, IntenCity brings together on the stage of the Ion Oblemenco football stadium such outstanding international artists as Luis Fonsi, Thomas Anders and Modern Talking Band, East 17, Ricchi. e Poveri, Sandra, Clean Bandit, Nati Natasha, Jason DeRulo, Paul van Dyk or Afrojack.
The Occupy Street Puppets Festival debuted in Craiova in 2014, with 23,000 spectators attending its pilot edition. In the following years, the themes changed each other in a surprising way, being dedicated to the elements of life: Water, Fire, Air and Earth. In 2019, the Occupy Street Puppets Festival was awarded a special award for Puppet and Marionette Theater by the UNITER Senate.
