David Popovichi became the European champion at the distance of 100 meters freestyle, setting a new world record (46.86). After an incredible race in Rome, the 17-year-old athlete posted a video on Facebook.

At the end of June, Popovichi became a two-time world champion (in 100 and 200 m freestyle), and after the competition in Budapest, he received the nickname “Rocket from Romania”. After winning in Rome, David shared an animation of him taking the form of a rocket underwater.

Popovichi will also compete in Rome in the 200-meter freestyle (he advanced to the semifinals with the second time) and the 400-meter freestyle.

David Popovichi, world record in 100 meters freestyle – He won European gold in Rome

David Popovici won the gold medal in the 100m freestyle at the European Senior Swimming Championships in Rome. In this race, the Romanian also set a new world record (46.86).

The Romanian swimmer was followed by Christoph Milak (47.47) and Alessandro Miressi (47.63).

Romania is represented at the European Championship (August 11-21) by a delegation of 11 athletes led by two-time world champion David Popovici. Romanian athletes compete in swimming, diving and high jumping.
