
In the past few hours, police officers from the police departments of Rhodope, Orestiada, Drama and Xanthi have arrested six traffickers five times, who were alleged to have smuggled illegal immigrants into the country.
On a rural road between the villages of Gratini and Roditi-Rodopis, police officers detained a foreigner because they noticed him driving a truck and illegally transporting six illegal immigrants.
Previously, the driver did not obey the police stop signal and accelerated, making dangerous maneuvers, while it was found that he did not have a driver’s license. In addition, it turned out that the criminal has an arrest warrant issued by the Greek judicial authorities for robbery.
Also on the vertical axis of the Komotini-Greek-Bulgarian border, authorities arrested two citizens for illegally transporting five other immigrants in a car. And in this case, the driver of the vehicle failed to follow the police signal by accelerating, causing the vehicle to roll over without any injury. The two criminal merchants actually tried to escape on foot, but to no avail.
The remaining three detentions, two foreigners and one citizen, took place in Mandra Evros, where police officers handcuffed a man who was illegally transporting nine illegal immigrants in a truck, on a municipal road at the height of the settlement of Kalamona in Drama, where three other people without legal papers were were found on the vehicle’s documents and on the Porto Lagos-Xanthi National Road, where 14 illegal immigrants were hidden in the truck.
The arrested will be taken to the competent prosecution authorities, while the preliminary investigation in five cases is being carried out by the border guards of Sapa, Iasmos Rodopi, Didymoticho Orestiada, Kato Nevrokopi Drama and Xanthi.
