Simona Halep on Friday won her fourth consecutive victory in two sets and advanced to the semifinals of the tournament in Toronto. Defeating Corey Gauff 6-4, 7-6(2), Simona described her opponent.

After winning the match in the quarterfinals in Toronto, Simone only praised the 18-year-old American.

“Coco is a great player and she is always difficult to play against, it was windy again today and I struggled to serve but I think we both played a good match.

It was a very good match. It was very difficult to return her serves, she was very progressive and strong, but I had to stay focused until the end and stay in the game, fight” – Simona Halepduring the field interview.

• Simona Halep is ranked 13th in the WTA Live rankings (up two places), and reaching the final would help her return to the top 10. In case of victory in the competition, the Romanian will take the 6th place in the world ranking.
• Halep won the Rogers Cup (the previous name of the competition) twice in 2016 and 2018, but in Montreal. In 2021, Simona Halep was stopped in the second round, losing to Danielle Collins.
