Messinia: How the authorities tracked down the perpetrator – Where is the investigation heading?

Society in Analipsi Messini is still upset from a chemical attack the 49-year-old woman received early on Wednesday morning from her ex-husband, while he was about to open the dry cleaners where he works.

It was 4 a.m. when the 49-year-old woman saw a masked man approach her and try to cover her mouth and nose with a cloth soaked in liquid. According to a report by kathimerini.gr, the woman resisted, after which the 50-year-old man poured the liquid directly onto her face from a bottle he was holding and then disappeared.

According to a police investigation, her ex-husband, with whom she has four children, is behind the attack. The man was found on Wednesday evening when he went to Kalamata General Hospital to visit the woman. The police initially brought him in as a suspect, but during interrogation he “bent over” and confessed to his act, revealing that the liquid he poured on the woman was hydrochloric acid (aquaforte) he had bought at a supermarket.

Well-informed sources, referring to cathimerini.grreported that the reasons for the attack have not yet been clarified, however, as they indicated, there are signs that financial disagreements were behind the attack, however, not excluding the possibility that the attack was also carried out for reasons of anti-jealousy.

The couple has been separated since 2015, however, according to the same data, they have been living under the same roof for the past few months.

The woman has been admitted to the Kalamata General Hospital since yesterday as she has a serious problem with one eye. Eleni Aliferi, head of the Kalamata hospital where the 49-year-old woman is being treated, told ERT about her health condition, said that “this is a very serious incident related to the improvement in the health of her right eye. He has a chemical burn of the third or fourth degree. The situation is very serious in her eyes. There is a risk of losing sight.

“He needs weeks of observation to see if he is getting better or not,” said the director of the Kalamata hospital, who said that apart from the specific burn, he has no other problems.

As Ms. Aliferi noted from a conversation with her, she is a very strong woman. “Despite the shock she went through, she impressed me that she is strong and that strength will help her on the difficult path ahead.”

Commenting on the horrendous incident of violence, Ms. Aliferi said on behalf of a mother of many children that the entire hospital staff was in shock.

“In addition to pharmaceutical support, we also provide psychological support, and if she needs anything else, we will be there for her,” Ms. Aliferi said.
