Greece is sending two Canadair CL-415 aircraft to France at the request of the French authorities through the European Civil Protection Mechanism and rescEU to assist France affected by major wildfires, especially in the southwest and southeast.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Climate Crises and Civil Protection, since the first activation of the request by order of the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Christos Stylianides, Greece has provided the Mechanism with two aircraft, which have already arrived in France.
It is noted that for the second time this year our country is helping the French authorities to fight forest fires, supporting, as emphasized in the message of the ministry, “European solidarity with all available forces.”
According to APE, Sweden has already offered assistance to France with two Air-Tractor aircraft, as well as to Poland, Germany, Romania and Austria with motorized teams to fight forest fires. According to the French Civil Protection Service, 42,000 hectares of forest area have been burned since June to date, and more than 10,000 firefighters are currently fighting the fire.
