Thessaloniki: Migrants were transported in car trunks

The 52-year-old driver, who was taxiing four immigrants without travel documents, was detained on the Old National Highway of Thessaloniki – Kavala (Kavallari Hill) by the Police of the Immigration Management Department of the Thessaloniki Aliens Authority and the Lagada Police Department.

The luggage compartment was “preferred” for the illegal transportation of foreigners by two 23-year-old young people who were arrested yesterday afternoon on Egnatia Odos street, near the Asprovalta toll road. In one case, three foreigners were found in the trunk of a car with no travel documents, and in another case, when the 23-year-old driver initially disobeyed a police signal and was then stopped, three more foreigners were found, again in the trunk.

The 22-year-old man arrested this morning had two foreigners in the luggage compartment and two more in the car on the Thessaloniki-Serron national highway, near the Assiro junction.

Those arrested, with cases filed against them by the Immigration Administration Departments of Thessaloniki, Mygdonia, Thermi and Agios Athanasios, respectively, will be taken to the competent prosecutor’s office.
