Deputy Minister of Citizens Protection Lefteris Oikonomou today signed a contract with TAIPED Commissioner Panagiotis Stampoulidis to immediately start a major project to relocate the Detention Center. Corydallu in Aspropyrgos.

The contract was signed in the presence of the Secretary General of the Anti-Crime Policy Konstantinos Papatanasiou and the leaders of TAIPED and stipulates that TAIPED undertakes to carry out all actions to finalize the project and carry out the process of its commissioning, on behalf of the Ministry of Citizens’ Protection. The project will be transferred to an economic entity-contractor, which will be selected on the basis of an international tender in accordance with the current legislation, while TAIPED will also undertake the monitoring of the execution of the contract to be concluded between the Ministry of Citizens’ Protection. and project contractor.

“Another government announcement of a project of symbolic importance begins to be implemented with today’s conclusion on the cooperation of the Ministry of Citizens’ Protection with TAIPED,” said Mr. Economou and stressed: “The strategically important project to relocate the Korydallos Detention Center to Aspropyrgos is about to formulate a new penitentiary policy of the country and create suitable conditions for the placement of prisoners in prisons based on European and international standards.”

The initial budget for the new penitentiary construction project, which is planned to be implemented under the PPP method, is 130 million euros, excluding VAT, and this amount is expected to cover the originally planned construction costs, excluding equipment, operation and maintenance costs. According to the original plan, the new building will be built on an area of ​​about 100 acres and will consist of 14 wings, each with a capacity of 200 people. They will also include hospital infrastructure, a psychiatric ward, therapeutic program facilities, courtrooms, school education departments, a gymnasium, a library, disciplinary cells, laboratories, and places of worship.

The relocation of the Korydallos reservation store was approved by the Government Committee on Strategic Contracts by decision of December 27, 2021 and included in the Development Program for Strategic Contracts of Law 4799/2021.

TAIPED Authorized Advisor Panagiotis Stambulidis said: “It is a great responsibility that TAIPED’s Strategic Contracts Division is taking on a project of strategic importance, as characterized by the competent government committee, the relocation of the Korydallos Detention Center.
