
Children’s literature author Angeliki Varella, who was born in Thessaloniki in 1930, grew up in Athens and studied at the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Athens, has died at the age of 92.
She survived World War II, which she describes in her book With a Smile on Her Face. Her first book was Greece and Us. Her book Philenade, My Hazel won the Janusz Korczak Prize, and her book Good Morning Hope won the Greek Children’s Book Circle award.
Graduated from the Faculty of History and Archaeology of the University of Athens. He first got involved in children’s books in 1966 and since then has been present at all events (schools, parent associations, municipalities, libraries, etc.) for children and children’s books, not only in Athens but throughout Greece. She has been awarded by the Women’s Literary Society, the Greek Children’s Book Circle, and the Ministry of Education for the reading books she has written for elementary school children. Among her other books (published by Pataki, Psychogios and Metaihmio) are Gelastos and Agelastos, 9 Phone Calls and a Hare, What are you doing, you are healthy, Who is playing ball on our ceiling, Little Bicycle- sun” and “Little football player”.
