The capital’s mayor-general, Nikusor Dan, said on Monday night in a TV show that he does not accept the criticism related to the mess in Bucharest’s parks, he says that they are the same as in the past years, and nowadays the cleanliness is quite high. Nikusor Dan said that some investments are being made in the parks, and the furniture in 40 playgrounds should be replaced.

Asked by B1 on Monday night about criticism of the mess in the capital’s parks, Nikusor Dan said the cleanliness was quite good, News.ro reported.

“I don’t want to accept this criticism, the parks are neither better nor worse than they were all these years. I visit Carol Park relatively often with my children. They do not have irrigation systems and the grass burns because it is dry. Cleanliness is quite good. Last summer there was a moment when we changed utility companies, which cost overruns, when the grass was not mowed for 2-3 months. The grass is currently being mowed. At the moment, it’s a constant cleanup,” Nikushor Dan said.

The mayor revealed that, however, there is a problem related to the appearance of the alleys, as well as the mess left behind by crows.

“The problem is the quality of the alleys that have been broken up over the years, they give the impression of neglect of the respective park, and in Herăstrău in particular we also have lake shores that have gone into the water. Repair of the lake shore costs 40-50 million lei. We will make them, by the end of this term we will also make these. And it is in Cişmigiu Park that we have crows, which in the morning, until it is cleaned, consider the alleys and playgrounds dirty. Playgrounds and paths that we clean every day. We have had this problem for years, it is not a new problem in this mandate,” said Nikusor Dan.

“We took on the work that we had not done for years”

Nikusor Dan emphasized that some parks are undergoing repair work.

“With the money that we managed to take to the park zone, we started to do something that was also not done. We have a bridge, the so-called big bridge in Cismigiu, built more than 100 years ago, it has never been repaired. Now we have it under repair, so there is no water in the lake to do work under the bridge. We, also in Cişmigiu, have several pergolas that support hanging plants, 30 were rotten, we replaced them. So we started doing the works that we haven’t done for years,” Nikushor Dan also clarified.

The mayor added that work will continue on the children’s playgrounds.

“As for the platforms, we will either replace them or repair those that can be repaired at all 40,” Nikushor Dan also stated.
