Dangerous mixture of high temperatures and winds, posing a serious danger to the event fires puts the state apparatus on alert, and extinguishing fires is carried out daily, according to government sources.
They note that firefighters are on the front lines across the country as the August crashes have proved devastating in the past.
41 forest fires in 24 hours
According to the announced data, over the past day, fire brigades encountered 41 forest fires, most of which were eliminated in the initial stage. Local investigating authorities, as well as units of the Arson Control Authority (ADHA), are investigating the causes of their occurrence.
The pyro-meteorological conditions in our country are expected to worsen until Tuesday, based on the latest available forecast data analyzed by the FLAME pyro-meteorological team of the National Observatory of Athens (EAA)/meteo.gr.
The reason for this significant deterioration is the increase in northerly winds (above Beaufort 5) combined with the establishment of very hot and dry conditions, which will significantly increase the flammability of dead forest fuels.
In general, fire and meteorological conditions in the period from August 7 to 9 will be characterized by the type of weather especially dangerous for forest fires “Hot + Dry + Windy” (hot, dry, windy).
A very high wind forest fire potential with potentially high thermal loads is expected in Kavala (including Thassos), Xanthi, Rhodopes, Evros, Samothraki, Lemnos, Phokis, as well as in the south and east of Chalkidiki.
A very high potential for wind-driven forest fires with potentially high heat loads is expected in Attica, Boeotia, northern and southern Evia, Corinth, Argolis, Laconia, and locally in Phthiotis, Achaia, northern Evia, northern Lesbos and Chios.
Thessaloniki, Pella, Serra, Drama, Kilkis and Lefkada are expected to have a high local potential for wind-driven forest fires.
Locally moderate/high potential for plume (pyro-induction) forest fires is expected in Ilia, Achaia and Etoloakarnania.
