Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said on Friday that Russia must answer for the “terrorist attack” on Ukraine’s nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhia, which was hit by strikes that Kyiv and Moscow blame each other for, AFP and Agerpres said.
“The occupiers have created another extremely risky situation for the whole of Europe: they have twice hit the largest Zaporizhia nuclear power plant on our continent,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during a video address on Friday evening.
“Any explosion of this place is a shameless crime, a terrorist act. Russia must bear responsibility for creating a threat to the nuclear power plant,” he continued.
Kyiv and Moscow accused each other of the strikes near the Zaporizhia NPP nuclear reactor in southern Ukraine.
After the attack, one reactor was shut down
During this attack, a high-voltage line was damaged, which led to the shutdown of one of the plant’s reactors.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said on Tuesday that the situation at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is “unstable” and is becoming “increasingly dangerous” every day.
When the plant was seized in March, the Russian military opened fire on buildings at the site, posing the risk of a major nuclear accident, AFP reported.
