
Car sales in Russia fell 74.9 percent in July compared to the same period in 2021, from 96,819 units to 32,412 units, according to a report by the Association of European Enterprises cited by Kommersant. Sales of AvtoVAZ, Russia’s largest carmaker, fell 68% in July, selling just 10,323 vehicles.
While car sales fell 74.9% in July 2022, car sales for the first seven months of 2022 fell 60.5% to 368,900 units.
Based on the results of these seven months, the largest Russian car manufacturer AvtoVAZ noted that it sold 85,037 thousand cars in the domestic market, which is 2.7 times less than in the same period of 2021.
Compared to July 2021, Lada sales in Russia fell 3.1 times last month. In January-July, the total sales of AvtoVAZ in the country fell by 63% to 85,000 vehicles.
According to the AEB report, AvtoVAZ ranks first in terms of car sales in July.
South Korean manufacturer Kia took second place in July with a 77% drop in sales to 3,900 vehicles, and a 61% drop in January-July to 49,500 vehicles.
In third place is Hyundai, whose sales in July fell by 75% to 3,400 cars, and in the first seven months – by 59% to 43,200,000 cars.
Russian dealers are depleting existing stocks due to a lack of new supplies, as most foreign brands have suspended production in Russia.
