
Large-scale tax evasion was discovered during audits by the Independent Government Revenue Office (AADE) in four hotel and room rental companies in Santorini.
The companies in question did not issue receipts for more than 500 accommodation packages that were booked through known short-term rental platforms.
AADE auditors identified suspicious businesses using special software and matched orders from the platforms with the receipts they issued. In these four cases alone, they found unissued receipts totaling more than 255,000 euros.
Analytically:
- A sole proprietorship renting apartments failed to issue 190 receipts in fiscal year 2021 with a net worth of €66,671 plus VAT of €8,667.
- An enterprise whose activity is the provision of hotel services did not issue 196 receipts in the financial year 2016 for a total amount of EUR 74,750, in addition to VAT of EUR 9,717.
- A privately owned apartment rental company failed to issue 105 service receipts for a total of €21,802 plus VAT of €2,834 in fiscal year 2021.
- A sole proprietorship whose activity is the provision of hospitality services did not issue receipts in fiscal year 2021 with a net value of €91,741 plus VAT of €11,926.
In some cases, the following penalties were applied:
- Tax corresponding to undeclared turnover, plus applicable surcharges.
- 50% corresponding VAT.
- Additional fines up to 2500 euros.
