Solar storms would bring life to Earth
A mixed team of Japanese and American researchers was impressed. Literally! In a paper published in the journal Life, these researchers found that solar particles, when they come into contact with Earth’s atmosphere, can form amino acids and carboxylic acids, the building blocks of proteins and organic life.
How these little “bricks” came to be has fascinated the scientific world ever since we found out what they are. Even earlier, if we recall only the hypothesis presented by Darwin, of “a warm lake in which were the ingredients of life, like a primordial soup, and in which everything was set in motion … by the divine breath.”
It seems Darwin got it right this time because the soup he was talking about is made up of chemicals and energy. According to modern scientists, in the first years of the Earth’s existence (more precisely, the first 100 million years), the energy emitted by the Sun was 30% less than it is today.
In contrast, massive solar flares, the kind we see today at least once every 100 years, then occurred only every 3 to 10 years. And they could cause the chemical reactions mentioned earlier. The Japanese even modeled such reactions in the laboratory.
They recreated a mixture of gases similar to Earth’s early atmosphere, then added energy in the form of artificial lightning and proton bombardments. Obviously, they passed the test, otherwise they would not have written about it.
In summary, the Sun was supposed to be the one who laid the foundations of life on Earth. Or, more precisely, start the engine.
Airbus proposes a space station with artificial gravity
The current International Space Station is living out its last years of existence. It will be officially decommissioned in 2030. Clearly, NASA will not be without a station, a necessary step in space exploration, and several projects are already under discussion.
China, which was kicked out of the ISS by the US in 2011, is already building its own Tiangong space station. In fact, it will be the only country in the world with its own station. India has also announced that it will build one, but we don’t recommend you believe everything they say. The announcement was made in 2019, the station was supposed to be ready in a maximum of seven years, and nothing has been moved yet.
Meanwhile, a new player enters the race. In fact, there is a player who wants to partner with NASA and its allies, none other than European giant Airbus. The company announced that it has already completed the design phase of the modular station, which was named Airbus LOOP.
The station will have three decks and enough volume (about 100 cubic meters) to accommodate a crew of four for long periods (for shorter periods even eight). Cosmonauts will sleep, train and rest on one of the three decks. The second will provide space for scientific research, and the third will house a centrifuge to simulate gravity.
Since the centrifuge is not powerful enough to simulate Earth’s gravity, it will be able to reproduce the gravity of Mars (9.2 rotations per minute) or the moon’s (six rotations per minute).
NASA has not yet given an answer, but the cooperation between the American space agency, and especially the European one, and Airbus has been long-standing. Therefore, a positive response from Airbus could be expected.
Aliens may soon detect your phone’s signal
Be careful what you look at on the phone, what you say, to whom, because you can be listened to and recorded! Not necessarily by services, but by extraterrestrial civilizations that, like us, are looking for traces of intelligence in the universe. This is stated in the study of the journal Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, which was signed by researchers from England and Mauritius.
With today’s technology and the fact that people are looking at their phones, the chances of being detected or appearing intelligent are slim. Instead, as changes in the technological field develop, you see the 5G system already implemented, an alien observer can detect the signals of your phones.
For example, by the end of this decade, about 100,000 satellites will already be in low Earth orbit, many of them used for telecommunications. From this point of view, Terra is already extremely active in the radio spectrum. If we are to go by the words of the quoted researchers, any more advanced civilization with the necessary tools could have discovered us.
How long? Well, after a decade at the most, say the authors of the study. Obviously, if such a civilization exists at a maximum distance of 10 light years from Earth.
