We finally found out why some people don’t recover their sense of smell after Covid ● Marriage reduces risk of dementia ● Men are not as good at housework as women
It’s finally clear why some people never regained their sense of smell after Covid
Loss of smell was one of the first symptoms associated with the Covid virus. The effect of the infection, which the researchers explain here only two years after the beginning of the epidemic. In addition, they also found out why some of those infected never regained their sense of smell, as this is a consequence of what experts call “long-term Covid”.
The immune system seems to be to blame. In particular, T-lymphocytes, those that respond to inflammation that occurs at the level of the olfactory epithelium, the tissue in which the olfactory cells are located. And this affects this tissue, leading to a reduction, temporary or in some cases, permanent loss of smell.
The study, published in Science Translational Medicine by an international team of experts, shows that these preliminary data are only the first step. Understanding the mechanism that leads to the loss of smell will only provide the basis for future treatments that will restore the olfactory cells. How long can it take until the first treatment appears? Well, they don’t say that anymore
Marriage reduces the risk of dementia
This is the conclusion of a study published in the Journal of Aging and Health by a group of Norwegian researchers from the Institute of Public Health. The research, which lasted almost 30 years, the researchers wanted to leave as a legacy for posterity.
Briefly, the study involved 8,706 subjects aged 44 to 68 to 70 years. The goal was to find out if there is a relationship between marriage and the onset of dementia.
As the title says, apparently single people achieved dementia in greater numbers. The percentage gradually decreased from divorced, to divorced but remarried, to never divorced. In principle, in each category the decrease was on average 6%.
The most interesting part, the explanation, is missing from the study. How so, you will get married, give birth to children, then you will see. Please, you can wait another 30 years for the next study to be completed, but we don’t want that, you might not understand anything for reasons we won’t list here.
Men do not perceive household chores in the same way as women
A lady’s or girl’s life partner left the kitchen in a soup-stained t-shirt, leaving behind a pile of dishes to wash and a long trail of crumbs on the floor, something like the fairy tale of Hansel and Gretel, this is when a vein in her temple swells and her left eye begins fight as if she wanted to say goodbye? Well, this is about science, not about other things that the average person can misinterpret.
A specialized study was even written for this in the journal “Philosophy and Phenomenological Studies” and it explains to us what it is really about. More precisely, neuroscientists have already shown that there are some neural processes in the human brain that connect the perception of something and action.
Moreover, speaking Romanian, in this case, if a woman sees a sink full of unwashed dishes or a carpet full of crumbs, she immediately reacts, poof, because in her brain the dishes must be clean, put in their place and the carpet clean why So that they were readily available so they knew where to get as many as they needed, plus someone could come visit and see the chaos and criticize it later.
On the other hand, men (not all) may see a sink full of dirty dishes as… a sink full of dirty dishes. I can also eat straight from the pan, no problem. Like I said, it’s science. The bumps on the carpet could easily be interpreted as a reference to the Brothers Grimm fairy tales, as I said before, rather than a need for cleanliness. In this case, we can conclude that the man is driven by higher aspirations.
The study also says that a man can work on it so he doesn’t annoy his partner with brains, which is neuroscience we’re talking about, after all. For example, while he is making tea, an egg or doing something in the kitchen, he can pick up the crumbs from the last meal. In this way, he can create a program that leads to a decrease in tension in the family.
Well, that was the point, it’s just a difference in perception between observing and needing to act. Clear as day. The only question mark that remains is what will happen if the man does not adjust his schedule. Does not nullify the effect of previous news? I asked in a purely scientific way, I didn’t talk!
