December used to be very cold, but in recent years temperatures have consistently exceeded 15 degrees, especially at Christmas. Very rarely the temperature dropped below -30 C, and there were years when there was no rain or snow at all. When was “spring” on the last day of the year? When was it very cold?

Years when December was unusual

1902 year

A very cold December brought temperatures of -32.2 in Bod (near Brasov), -26.5 in Tg Mureș, -26.2 in Oradea, -26 in Craiova, -23 in Buzău and -20 C in Sulin.

1903 year

On December 3, it was +20.8 degrees at the Bucharest Filaret weather station, +21 in Constanta. The maximum values ​​were +22.3 in Calarasi, +22 in Tourna-Magurele and +19 in Bacau.

1915 year

It was +19.5 degrees in Kraiów in December

1927 year

The month brought very low temperatures: -32.3 °C in Bratea (Sibiu), -27.9 °C in Cluj, -29.8 °C in Sibiu, Bucharest Filaret -26.4 °C, -25.7 ° C in Tg Mureș and -24.8 °C in Timisoara. However, it was +9 degrees Celsius in Ohm that month, and this record still stands.

On December 17, it was +18 degrees in Brasov. In Tirgu Mures they were +17.1. It was 16 degrees in Oradea. In December it was +18.7 in Cluj.

1985 year

On December 5, it was +23.4 C in Campina, which is the absolute maximum of the month, and the next day it was +20.2 C. In Tirgovishte it was +22 C. At the mountain station of Vledeas, at an altitude of more than 1800 m above sea level, the level was + 10.2°С, and in Sinai 1500 it was +15.4°С. It was +20.3°C on Drobeta TS. Even Bâlea Lac, one of the high-altitude weather stations, was then +10.4°C, and the minimum was +4.6C.

1989 year

December brought very high temperatures in the days of the revolution: Buzau (+21.6), Iasi (19.5), Satu Mare (18).

On December 18, 1989, in Calafat it was +21.2, in Drobeta-Turnu-Severin it was +21.4, in Constanta +20.8 and in Bucharest +18.4 S. On December 17 in Merkurya-Chuk it was +16.8 degrees, and the previous evening brought an extremely high minimum: +9.2 C. The first days of the revolution also brought very high temperatures in Timisoara, reaching a climax of +17.9 C on the 16th. In Predial, the maximum temperature was +15.3 C. On December 17, it was + In Oravice, it was 20.4°C, and in the morning of December 19, the minimum was +15.3°C.

In December, it was -31 C at Intorsura Buzăului.

1993 year

A record amount of precipitation for the 12th month was recorded in Stana de Vale: 349.4 mm.

1995 year

The day of December 24 brought a record rainfall in 24 hours: 137.6 mm in Stana de Vale. The average value for the whole month is 158 mm in Stâna de Vale.

1996 year

A fantastically cold day: a maximum of -23 C on Vf Omu on December 27. On Wednesday, Chuk, the minimum on Monday was -29.2 degrees Celsius.

1997 year

In the mountainous area, temperatures were low: -26.4 C in Chahlau – Toaka

1998 year

On Christmas Day, Intorsura Buzăului had -34.5 C, which is the absolute minimum for December in the country as weather data is available. It was -33 degrees in Mercury-Chuka, and -27.2 degrees in Iasi.

2000 year

In Giurgi on December 27, it was +21°C, and the following night the minimum was +13.6°C. It was +20.1°C in Calarasi.

2001 year

The coldest December in the last 60 years, with an average of -4.7 C below normal for this period. It was -31.6°C in Merkurya-Chuk, and -28.4°C in Intorsura Buzăului.

2008 year

In Iasi at the beginning of December it was +17.9, and in Sulin – +16.6. In the Republic of Moldova, it was +18.9 degrees Celsius in Chadir Lunga, which is the absolute maximum for the last month of the year.

2009 year

At the beginning of December, there were two extremely warm nights in Sulin, in which the minimum did NOT drop below +12 degrees.

2010 year

On Christmas Day in Calarasi it was +18.3 degrees.

2014 year

The last days of the year brought a minimum of -26.5°C on the Omu mountain range.

2015 year

The end of the year brought extremely hot days, and on December 27 it was +21 degrees in Tirgovishte, +20.6 in Ploiesti, +19.7 in Campina. At the Semenik mountain weather station, +14.3°C was recorded on the 23rd, as well as several nights with minimums above +3°C.

2017 year

In mid-December at Intorsura Buzăului it was +14.3 C. in Calafat at Christmas it was +18.9 degrees.

2019 year

On December 20, it was +10.4°C at the Chahlau-Toaka station, which became a new absolute record for the month at the station located at an altitude of 1,900 m above sea level. There were four nights with positive lows, including +2.5C.

2020 is the year

December was 3.8 degrees warmer than the national average for 60 years, setting a record for the last month of the year.
