Partial solar eclipse today – what time and how it can be observed

Today, Tuesday, October 25, a partial solar eclipse will take place, which will be visible, including in our country.

The partial eclipse will begin shortly after noon and will be visible from the Northern Hemisphere, Africa, Asia and Europe. The maximum phase of the eclipse will be observed in Central Russia and Western Siberia, where the Moon will cover about 85% of the solar disk.

In central Greece and Athens, the duration of the eclipse will be approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes. It will start at 12:36 p.m., maximum coverage of the solar disk (almost 38%, a percentage that will reach 46% at the northeastern border of the country) will occur at 13:43 p.m., and end at 13:43 p.m. 14:51 .

In Thessaloniki, the partial eclipse will begin at 12:30 pm, peak at 1:38 pm, and end at 2:46 pm.

Watch the partial eclipse from the Athens Observatory.

The tourist centers of Thissio and Penteli today invite everyone to watch a partial solar eclipse.

The observation will be carried out live from the Thissio Visitor Center with suitable and safe equipment for our eyes, as well as online from the Penteli Visitor Center, from where it will be broadcast live on the IAADET YouTube channel.

What is a partial solar eclipse?

A partial eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, covering only part of the latter. And even then, the eclipse can be safely observed not directly with the naked eye (there is a risk of serious damage), but through binoculars or a telescope with a special solar filter.

A total lunar eclipse will follow on November 7, which will be the last total eclipse of 2022.

There will be four eclipses in 2023: a total solar eclipse on April 20, a lunar eclipse on May 5-6, an annular solar eclipse on October 14, and a partial lunar eclipse on October 28-29.

The next solar eclipse that will be visible from our country will occur in 2027.
