September is usually a warm month in the first half and the weather is not as unstable as in spring or late autumn. September brought extreme heat in 1946 and 2015, extreme rain in 2005 and an unprecedented drought in 1961. In exceptional cases, it also brought frost in the lowlands and frost in the mountains.

In what years was the weather great in September?

1906 year

It was very cold at the end of the month: -3 degrees in Craiova, -1.6 in Bucharest.

1912 year

In Piatra Neamca, the monthly amount of precipitation was 434.7 mm, which is a record for Romania for the ninth month of the year.

1921 year

In Iasi, it was -3.5 C. The same was recorded in 1931.

1935 year

In Vf Omu on September 18, it was -15 degrees, the absolute minimum of the month.

1939 year

It was -3 C in Cluj, a September record that is still valid today.

1941 year

In Constanta at the end of September, it was -0.6 C.

1946 year

September brought extremely high values ​​that remain the records of the month until now: +43.5 degrees in Strehia, +42.2 in Giurgiu, +40.1 degrees in Craiova, +39.6 degrees in Bucharest, +38 in Iasi, +37 .8 in Campina, +37.3 degrees in Satu Mare and +34.6 degrees in Brasov. In Predyal on September 6, it was +31.7 degrees.

1961 year

The year brought the driest September, with 94% less precipitation than usual.

1970 year

September finally brought low temperatures: -4.7 C in Satu Mare, -3.3 C in Tg Mureș and -1.9 C in Timisoara. At the Vlădeasa weather station at an altitude of more than 1,800 m above sea level, it was -8.8 degrees Celsius.

1977 year

On September 21, it was -10.7 degrees Celsius in Toplyka, which is a record for the month for populated areas. Also at that time it was -10 C in Merkurya-Chuk, -6.1 in Predyal and -7.5 C in Sinaia 1500.

1981 year

Over 107 mm of rain fell in one day in Iasi. The average figure for the whole month is 48.5 mm.

1993 year

Vf Omu had +19.2 C, a very high temperature for the coldest place in the country.

1994 year

It was the year with the warmest September in the last 60 years, with a national average of +18.8 C.

1996 year

It was the year with the coldest September in the country in the period 1961-2021, the average temperature was only +11.8 C.

2001 year

It was the wettest September in six decades, double the long-term average. At the Vlădeasa 1800 mountain station, 342 mm fell, which is almost four times the norm.

2005 year

On September 20, at the Filaret meteorological station in Bucharest, the amount of precipitation reached a record: 161.4 mm. A total of 316.5 mm per month.

2008 year

In Cluj it was +34.4 C, the absolute maximum of the month.

2015 year

There were temperature records in the mountains: +27.6 C in Semenik, +24.9 C on Vladeas 1800, +22.5 C on Balea Lac. The heat wave between September 17 and 19 was special, as such hot episodes rarely occur in the second half of September. It was +37.4 degrees in Jimbolia, +37.3 degrees in Bozovići (Karas-Severin district), +36.6 in Veradia de Mures, +35.5 in Piatra Neamka, +34 in Brasov, 9, at Mercury-Chuk +33.2.

2018 year

At the beginning of September in Calafat it was +35.9 degrees, but at the end of this month a wave of cold air brought the temperature to Sibiu -2.1, to Mercury Chuk -8.2 and to Omu -10.1. The effects of the cold wave were also felt in the south: a minimum of +1.6°C in Drobeta-Turnu-Severin and +2.4°C in Calafat. In these two cities, the warmest nights at the end of September bring a minimum of 14-16 degrees.
