The temperature in his area Arctic Growing much faster than the global average than scientists previously thought, according to a new Scandinavian study.

This shows that the Arctic is still more sensitive and vulnerable to climate change and that the phenomenon in the area under consideration has so far been systematically underestimated by climate models.

Researchers from Finland and Sweden, led by Mika Radtanen of the Finnish Meteorological Institute in Helsinki, who published data in the journal Communications Earth & Environment, analyzed data from 1979-2021 for the area above the Arctic Circle (defined as the Arctic).

They concluded that most of the Arctic Ocean was heated by average rate of 0.75 degrees Celsius per decadeat least four times faster than the rest of the Earth.

Previous research has shown that temperatures in the Arctic have risen two to three times faster than in the rest of the world.

Indeed, in the Eurasian sector of the Arctic Ocean, off the Svalbard and Novaya Zemlya archipelagos, and in the Barents Sea, temperature rise is now estimated to be up to 1.25 degrees Celsius per decade, seven times faster than the global average.

The Arctic is warming faster and faster as ice loss increases.

The conclusion of the researchers is that climate models generally underestimate the increase in temperature in the Arctic and highlight the need for a deeper understanding of the mechanisms that explain the phenomenon in the region.
