​John Higgins’ successor Mark Selby also crashed out of the Tour Championship snooker tournament in the first round after a 10-8 defeat by Gary Wilson.

Gary Wilson beats Mark Selby for the 2024 Tour Championship

Ranked 13th in the world, Wilson got off to a great start against Selby, the multiple world champion (2014, 2016, 2017 and 2021).

He led 5-2 and 7-4, but eventually closed the gap, managing to secure a place in the next round after just 18 frames.

In the quarterfinals, Gary Wilson will meet China’s Zhang Anda, the third favorite of the tournament.

Johnstone’s Paint Tour Championship 2024 will be held from April 1 to 7 in the center of Manchester (England). The tournament has a total prize pool of £500,000 and the reigning champion is Sean Murphy (2023).

A place in the semi-finals is awarded £40,000, the finalists receive £60,000 and the grand champion £150,000.
