“The Romanian national team is always a priority,” says Edi Iordenescu

The coach’s current deal runs until the end of EURO 2024 and he said he was not yet thinking about an extension but hoped a decision would be made before the tournament in Germany.

“I was waiting for this period, I lacked contact with the boys. I wish there were more activities, but this is a calendar. We have a process that started two and a half years ago, we still have stages.

For me personally, extending the contract is not a problem and a priority. After this action, we will probably have a discussion with the president of the federation. We will see. I assure you that the national team of Romania is always a priority for me.

We’ll see what the federation thinks, but I don’t know how the federation sees continuity. I’m a coach who takes responsibility, but I need to know what the expectations are. This will tell the answer to the final tournament, but we’ll see.

I was grateful for everything that was offered to me so far, I felt the trust of the federation, even if there was tension around the team, there was complete concentration inside.

My contract is the least important at the moment, the important thing is to continue our work and what the boys will do when they return to the clubs before May. There is still a lot of work” – Edi Jordanescuat the press conference.

This month, the Romanian national team is holding its first practice matches after qualifying for the European Championship in Germany (June 14 – July 14, 2024).

The Tricolors will face Northern Ireland (Friday, March 22 at the National Arena) and Colombia (Tuesday, March 26 at the Civitas Metropolitano in Madrid).
