Luce Bresel defeated by Stephen Maguire at the World Open
Winner of the WC Crucible in May 2023, Bresel was unlucky in the main draw draw for the event in Yushan, China and faced a tough opponent early on, the former world No. 2 (2008/09 and 2009/10).
In Wednesday’s doubleheader, Maguire played almost flawlessly and dropped just one frame (his third of the match).
The Scotsman, who spent 11 consecutive years in the world Top-16 (2005-2016), won six ranking tournaments during his career (the last in 2020 – the Tour Championship).
Currently ranked 31st in the world, Maguire’s last notable performance was also in China: the quarter-finals at the International Championship in November 2023.
Stephen will face Barry Hawkins (18th in the world ranking), who won the Englishman’s duel with Robbie Williams (46th) 5-2.
