Gael Monfils produced the surprise of the day in the men’s draw at Indian Wells, the French veteran eliminating Hubert Gurkach, the eighth seed at the California Masters, 6-0, 6-7(5), 6-2.

Gael, 37, made a blistering start to the match and the Frenchman won the first set with an incredible 6-0 scoreline.

After four breaks (two on each side), the second set reached a tie-break, where the 27-year-old Pole won: with 5-4 in favor of his opponent, he won all the points and, of course, the set (7-5).

Monfils dominated the decider (two breaks made the difference), the Frenchman (ranked 54th in the world) clearly won 6-2.

The game lasted two hours and one minute.
