Marius Šumudike parted ways with the Turks from Gaziantep on Wednesday, having managed just one success in the last 11 stages of the championship.
Marius Šumudike, unhappy with the hostility of the press in Turkey
In September 2023, Gaziantep announced the return of Marius Šumudika to the technical bench, as the team was last in Turkey with 0 points at the time.
The Romanian technician somehow managed to revive the team, but the results of the last period led to a parting with the Turkish Super League club.
With only one success in the last 11 stages, Marius Šumudike left Gaziantep in 18th place with 28 points.
In a telephone interview with Digi Sport, the 53-year-old Romanian coach said that he was ready to leave, and that he was worried about the hostile attitude of the Turkish media.
“I made a decision beforehand, after what happened last week, with all the attacks in the press.
I have decided to stop cooperation. There were some problems. I have an agreement with this club, I am very worried about him. It was quite difficult, I took the team after six stages with zero points, managed to score 28 points.
I thought now was the time. I felt that something was going in the wrong direction. After what happened last week, I made a decision.
And with this decision, I did not feel Shumudika. It wasn’t me. There was no winter training either. I also found a team that was sold out.
Turkey is a very difficult championship, points are extremely hard to come by. In Galatasaray, we lost in 90+1 minutes. It doesn’t matter anymore, it’s all in the past now.
I’m really relieved. I leave the team one point away from first place.
I’m going with a good result for a team from the bottom of the standings. If you make the rating only with me as a coach, we are saved from the 14th place. I also felt hostility from the media and that was it.’ – Marius Tsyumudika reported.
