​The Romanian women’s table tennis team qualified for the Olympic Games in Paris by defeating Egypt (African champion) 3-0 and advancing to the quarterfinals of the World Championships in Busan (South Korea).

Romania reached the quarterfinals of the Women’s Table Tennis World Cup

Bernie Shox and Adina Diacona won two decisive victories. The hardest match was played by Eliza Samara, who fought back from 0-2 in the sets and won 11-9 in the decider.

Bernadette Shox – Hana Goda 3-1 (11-2, 6-11, 11-8, 11-6)

Elizabeth Samara – Dina Meshref 3-2 (11-13, 8-11, 11-5, 11-7, 11-9)

Adina Diaconu – Yusra Helmy 3-0 (11-8, 11-7, 11-5).

  • Reaching the quarterfinals of the competition is synonymous with being at the Olympic Games in Paris this summer (June 26 – August 11).
  • In the quarter-finals, Romania will play against Japan, who beat Croatia 3-0.
  • The women’s team consists of Bernadette Shox, Elizabeth Samara, Andrea Dragoman, Adina Diacona, Elena Zacharia, trainers Viorel Filimon, Michaela Steff and physiotherapist Petruc Gice.

  • Also, on Wednesday at 13:00, the Romanian men’s national team will play against the Chinese national team (the main favorite and the title of Olympic champion) in the eighth round of the World Cup. An amazing victory would bring the “tricolor” to the 2024 Olympics.
