Ernests played his last singles match in February 2023 when he represented Latvia in the Davis Cup and defeated Daniel Kukierman (Israel) 6-1, 2-6, 7-6(2). He then paired with Karlis Ozolins and lost in the doubles 3-6, 3-6 against Daniel Kukerman and Edan Lesham.
The most important result at the Grand Slam tournaments was achieved on Roland Garros 2014when he stopped in the semi-finals (defeated in four sets by Novak Djokovic).
He reached the round of 16 at the US Open (2007) and Wimbledon (2018), and his best performance at the Australian Open was reaching the third round (2020).
