Corentin Mute drank Pepsi after his body “gave up” during the match against Mariano Navone

Mute, who is ranked 146th in the world (his highest was 51st), argued with the referee several times during the first set of the match against Mariano Navone (118 ATP), but won 7-5.

The Frenchman was leading 2-1 in the second set as well, when he started having physical problems.

Corentin asked for a soda (hoping the caffeine would help) and played weaker and weaker. Having lost four games in a row, the 24-year-old football player received the entire bottle and presented it to the audience as a trophy.

The Frenchman also clashed with the crowd, refusing to seek help from a physiotherapist and the match ended 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 to Navone. Here you can see the play staged by Corentin Muthe.

Shortly after the loss, Corentin Mute explained on X (formerly Twitter) why he left the arena during the match.

“I thought I was ready to compete, but my body gave out at 7-5, 2-1… I tried to fight until the end, but it wasn’t enough. (I even tried Pepsi, which I haven’t had in maybe a year).

I’m still in the process of getting back to 100%. It takes time. But I’m training well, so my time will definitely come. Thank you for your support” – Corentin Mute.

The Frenchman’s career was affected by numerous injuries, but he often stood out with strange moments on the field. Two years ago, Mute withdrew from a match in Naples because he did not like the playing surface (“very slippery”), and also at the Orleans Challenger almost had a fight with the Bulgarian Adrian Andreev.
