Kasatkina (7th seed at the start of the competition in the United Arab Emirates) won the first set 6-3, but Haddad Maia (6th seed) came back to win 6-4 in the second set.
Both players managed to break in the deciding set, but Daria was more focused on the tie-break and won 7-2.
