Zhou Guanjiu (Stake) says he will be more aggressive in 2024 F1 season
The first and only Chinese F1 driver has said he will do everything he can to stay under contract beyond this season, which will see many team changes.
Zhou will compete for Stake, the Swiss Sauber team (Alfa Romeo last season). The future of the Asian is uncertain, many pilots want to join the team, which will turn into Audi from 2026.
“I think this is a year where I want to change my approach to everything a little bit, be a little more aggressive, try to be a little more ambitious in general.
A lot of drivers’ contracts are coming to an end, so there will be a lot of changes in the driver market… I want to make sure I have a very strong season for the future in F1.
I was like a rookie in my first year, in my second year I didn’t want to take too many risks, I wanted to make sure I made less mistakes because you see pilots, when they make mistakes, they stay less than two years and get eliminated.
That was my approach for the first year and a half, but now it’s time to change it. Consistency is something I can definitely improve on. The last two seasons have been a learning curve for me. I feel that this season I can reveal much more potential” – Guanyu Zhouquoted by Reuters.
In the 2023 season, Zhou finished 9th three times and set the fastest lap at the season opener in Bahrain. He also qualified fifth for the Hungarian Grand Prix, but crashed at the first corner and finished 16th.
Zhou’s colleague in the F1 Race is the Finn Valtteri Bottas.
